NORTH WEBSTER – Town Council members voted Tuesday to split the cost of a grinder pump with a cottage owner whose sewer system is on the fritz. Summer resident Jerry Juillerat told council about the trouble he’s been having with the vacuum sewer system he shares with two neighbors. A visit from a plumber and help from town utilities employees weren’t enough to get the pipes to work dependably in the 20-year-old system, he indicated, and asked the town what it could do. Utilities Manager Mike Noe suggested installing a grinder pump, which would send water through the pipe without relying on vacuum or gravity. He expressed confidence the pump would fix the problem, but council wasn’t sure who should pay for it. “You’re not sure it’s your obligation; we’re not sure it’s our obligation,” council President Jon Sroufe remarked, suggesting that splitting the cost would be a good compromise. Juillerat agreed, and council voted to find a contractor and have the pump installed. Also Tuesday, council heard that demolition had begun on the former Penguin Point building, though a small crawl space uncovered during demolition will have to be filled in; and that the lake will be dredged this week at the site of the Dixie launch. Noe also reported that leaf pickup began Tuesday.
