NORTH MANCHESTER – The North Manchester Town Council welcomed a new town manager at the start of their meeting Wednesday evening. Town council member Jim Smith said the decision came weeks after selecting and interviewing qualified candidates. After interviewing, it was apparent Dave Schoeff was the clear choice, Smith said. “Bottom line is, Dave brings a wealth of experience,” Smith said. “He will be able to be effective much sooner.” Schoeff has experience working as the Culver town manager. “Thank you very much, I look forward to working with North Manchester and keep moving it forward,” Schoeff said. “Thank you for this opportunity.” The town council also discussed proposals for the wastewater bar screening. The committee is reviewing all of the criteria they have received so far. They are comparing installation and pricing, and reviewing warranties and references. Jeff Hersha of Jones & Henry Engineers Ltd. said everything varies depending on the magnitude of the project. He said the cost is a component but the history of the company and its mechanisms are broader ranging. Hersha noted the request for proposals “always gives the town more control and ability to make a better selection.” Council also heard about activities to look forward to throughout the month: There will be a Learn Run during Harvest Fest; the fall clean-up and leaf pick-up is scheduled for Oct. 17 to 18 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Park and Recreation Director Jennifer Hotchkiss said there will be a pumpkin hunt Oct. 30; and trick-or-treating is scheduled for Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The next town council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
