Kosciusko County Chief Deputy Treasurer Cindy Nolton announced Monday her candidacy for the 2008 Republican nod for county treasurer.
Current treasurer Kent Adams said he will not seek a second term.
"I'm planning on keeping busy, it's just time to move on," Adams said when reached by telephone today.
A primary election will be held in May for each party to choose a candidate. No Democratic or other Republican candidates have announced yet that they will join the primary race. Nolton has served as chief deputy treasurer for six years. She also served for two years as bookkeeper in the Kosciusko County clerk's office.
She holds an accounting degree from Ivy Tech and a bachelor's degree in business from Indiana Wesleyan University.
This will be Nolton's first attempt at running for public office.
"I look forward to continuing my service to Kosciusko County residents and meeting the public trust expected of this office," she said.
Local candidates' filing for the May primary opens Jan. 23 and closes at noon Feb. 22.
