Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Don McCune will not face any criminal charges in connection with the shooting of a motorist late last month.
Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine said Friday he was informed by the prosecutor’s office of the decision not to seek charges.
McCune had been  placed on administrative leave after the July 27 shooting in North Webster.
“I have received a letter from Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel H. Hampton, stating that the State of Indiana will not be filing any criminal charges whatsoever against deputy sheriff Don McCune, for any and all actions taken by our officer on July 27, 2016,” said Rovenstine in a press release issued Friday afternoon by KCSD.
He added, “I have felt since the initial event occurred that officer McCune acted properly within the law, as well as in accordance to our use of force policy.”
The KCSD is awaiting findings of the Indiana State Police shooting investigation report, after which it will be turned over to the Sheriff Department’s review board.
McCune shot and injured Alexander Jackson, 24, after Jackson chased another motorist and allegedly fired his weapon at the other motorist.
The chase ended when Jackson’s pickup rammed McCune’s vehicle and then crashed into a building in North Webster.
Jackson was hospitalized, but has since been booked into the county jail and released after his bond was paid. He is facing a half dozen charges including attempted murder.
