Newsstand Brings Print to Syracuse

Posted
SYRACUSE – Wawasee Newsstand opened in Syracuse this month, selling regional and national newsspapers as well as locally authored books and cigars and juice.
The Newsstand, owned by Cleo Voght, sells the daily edition of the Times-Union,  Journal Gazette, South Bend Tribune, Goshen News and Elkhart Truth. It also sells the Mail-Journal on Wednesdays and Indianapolis Star Sundays, and it offers free copies of The Paper and Summer Living and has visitor information pamphlets available.
The store offers the Sunday editions of the New York Times and Chicago Tribune and the weekend edition of the Wall Street Journal as well.
Jennifer Relue, store manager, remarked on why they offer several things in addition to newspapers.
“This day and age it would be impossible for a business to survive on the sales of newspaper prints. To put it into perspective for you, out of town newspapers are next to impossible to get your hands on in this area so we are using that to draw in customers by carrying New York, Chicago, Wall Street Journal, etc.,” she said. “In turn, we are selling cigars of various costs and qualities, which happen to carry a significant profit. Additionally, going with the theme of actual ‘paper editions,’ rather than e-reading, we are offering a selection of books written by local and semi-local authors of all varieties.”
They also carry Orangina, she added, a sparkling citrus beverage with natural pulp similar to orange juice.
The Newsstand is on Pickwick Drive next to Family Dollar. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
