New Social, Civic Club Now Open In WarsawA new social club in Warsaw has opened and will offer events and guest speakers to both members and the public.
While the St. Regis Club hosted Republican congressional candidate Bob Thomas last night, founder Dave Gustafson said the club is open to all political beliefs. Both with members and guest speakers, Gustafson said he wanted diversity.
"There is a wide variety of political viewpoints in this club," said Gustafson.
On May 14, Hillsdale College professor RJ Pestritto will speak at the club and discuss Progressivism."The main purpose of the club is to gather socially and expand culturally," said Gustafson.
The St. Regis Club, 114 S. Buffalo St., is located at what was formerly Bishop Books in downtown Warsaw.
Gustafson bought the building in January and after some renovations the club opened March 1.
There are currently 100-plus members, and Gustafson said for someone to join they need to be sponsored by three members. Those interested in joining must be 21 years old to apply.
The first floor has several meeting rooms while the downstairs has a soon-to-be-completed cigar lounge and gym.
The gym includes a sauna that was donated to the club.
For members there are also several "clubs within the club," said Gustafson.
Some of the clubs are geared more toward physical development like the cycling and running clubs.
For those looking to grow intellectually there is a Polygot club where members learn new languages.
There is also a faith fellowship gathering for members.
In all there are currently 17 clubs for members to choose from.
There are also plans to host special events such as exhibiting local artists, political roundtables like the one Thursday night and film festivals.
Gustafson said the venue is available to be rented out to the public for events and parties.
The facility is open to members seven days a week.
