Nature Preserve Tour Set For Saturday

Posted
SILVER LAKE – As a part of the communitywide book read, Kosciusko Literacy Services invites the public to a guided tour of the Wildwood Nature Preserve in Silver Lake Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Wildwood Nature Preserve has a small pond surrounded by forest, vernal pools scattered beneath the trees, a pine planting, numerous wetlands and a prairie. Oak, hickory and many other tree species are native to the site. Numerous wildflowers blanket the forest floor in the spring. Many types of birds from wood ducks on the pond to woodpeckers in the woods inhabit the area.
The preserve is on the south side of Ind. 14, three miles east of the intersection of Ind. 15 and Ind. 14 in Silver Lake.  Wildwood Nature Preserve is a managed by the Acres Land Trust.
Acres exists to help protect the last of the natural habitats in northeast Indiana, southern Michigan and northwest Ohio, and to teach the value of keeping natural areas intact.
This event is part of Kosciusko Literacy Services’ communitywide book read in 2011, “A Girl of the Limberlost”, by Indiana native Gene Stratton-Porter.
