Zimmer Inc. has been recognized by the nation's orthopedic surgeons as tops in its industry for customer service.
Presented annually by Knowledge Enterprises and the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation, the Excellence Service to the Orthopedic Surgeon Award recognizes the knowledge, reliability and responsiveness of field representatives of the firms in the orthopedic industry. The survey, conducted earlier this year, questioned 179 orthopedic surgeons across the US.
"This recent award is more validation Zimmer owns a superior position in the mind of the orthopedic surgeon," said Shirley Engelhardt, president and founder of Knowledge Enterprises. "Even after normalizing for market share, Zimmer ranked at the top in 11 out of 17 service categories - from responsiveness to availability of its field representatives, and the company's responsiveness to the clinical and administrative needs of the surgeon. No other company even came close."
Zimmer, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bristol-Myers-Squibb since 1972, provides joint replacement, fracture management and patient care products to orthopedic surgeons and hospitals world-wide. According to Brad Bishop, of Zimmer, the company ranks in the top five in the orthopedic industry, with 1998 net sales of $920 million.
John Engelhardt, Knowledge Enterprises chief executive officer, said the survey results were significant because the survey included the wide range of orthopedic specialties
"The inclusion of all orthopedic surgical disciplines points to Zimmer as perhaps the strongest brand in the industry," he said.
Ray Elliot, Zimmer president said receiving the award is a testament his company's determination to provide the best service in the industry.
"We understand that the tradition of trust that exists with our customers is one of our company's most valuable assets," said Elliot, on receiving the award. "While other companies must focus on internal issues, our focus will continue to be on providing outstanding service and responsiveness and developing new products that complement our core strengths in joint replacement and trauma."
According to the survey, Zimmer also ranked first in other attributes surveyed, including; best medical education program, trade show presence and value-added services.
In 1998, Knowledge Enterprises also cited Zimmer for outstanding services and products in the orthopedic industry.
