MILFORD – An accident Saturday morning claimed the life of 27-year-old Kami L. Ellis, Nappanee. The crash occurred on CR 1350N near CR 300W, Milford, at 12:09 a.m. Deputies and emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found a disintegrated 2007 Nissan engulfed in flames, according to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson stated Ellis died from blunt force trauma. The autopsy was performed Sunday at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center, Fort Wayne, by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Scott Wagner and Forensic Odontologist Craig Nelson. Dental comparisons were performed and doctors were able to provide positive identification, as well as the cause of death. Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team and crash investigators preliminarily determined that the vehicle had been eastbound on CR 1350N at high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle had lost control, causing it to slide off the roadway surface, striking a tree and sign post before coming to rest in a field. More details pertaining to the crash are currently under investigation, according to the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office and the Kosciusko FACT. The crash investigation also was assisted by officers from the Milford Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
