N. Manchester Council Takes A Look At Town Hall Roof

Posted
NORTH MANCHESTER - There are "major issues" with the roof of North Manchester's town hall.

Tuesday night at the regular town council meeting, town manager Dan Hannaford said a contractor looked at the town hall's roof and said there were problems.

Hannaford said the contractor went on the roof Tuesday and inspected the structure to evaluate the condition of the roof. The last time the roof was replaced, no flashing was installed and now the edges of the rolled roof are pulling up.Water is running inside and paint is beginning to peel.

The contractor suggested that new flashing be installed and the roof be covered with a rubberized product. A 7- to 8-inch gutter also needs to be added to the back side of the building since that is where most of the water runs off.

The actual roof material is still in good shape and does not need to be replaced.

Estimates for the repairs will be presented at a future meeting.

In other business, the council:

n Approved asphalt bids. Gaunt & Son Asphalt was the only company that submitted asphalt bids to the town. Manchester will buy 500 tons of intermediate asphalt material for $51.75 per ton; 1,000 tons of surfacing asphalt for $53.75 per ton; and 500 gallons of tack coat for $2.25 per gallon.

n Approved continued tax abatements for Clear Creek Apartments and Fellowship Apartments.

n Approved a petition to vacate an alley at C. Lavonne Lautzenhiser's property. The ground was never opened as an alley and had never been used as an alley. The planning commission recommended the vacation of the alley.
