WINONA LAKE – Kosciusko Velo Cycling Club will host the “12 Hours of Winona,” a solo or team relay mountain bike endurance race, on the Winona Lake mountain bike trails Saturday. All proceeds will benefit the maintenance of the local trails, along with the Ride and Walk Warsaw and Winona Lake Market Street Project. The family-friendly event kicks-off at noon and racers may compete as a four-person team, a two-person duo, or take the challenge and race solo in either the six-hour or 12-hour race category. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each category. The goal of the race is to complete as many laps as possible within the selected six-hour or 12-hour time frame. Riders are encouraged to wear costumes and awards also will be given for the best costumes on-course. The race will be timed via computer chips worn on the legs of all racers and there will be a live scoring monitor providing real-time race results from Planet Adventure, an Indianapolis-based race timing company. Spectators are welcome to witness the racing action all day and throughout the night up to the thrilling finish at midnight. The course consists of a 6.5-mile loop on the trails that will be fast and fun for riders of all ages and skill levels. Families are encouraged to attend to visit and race on The Winona Lake Trails, which have been rated as one of the top mountain bike trails in Indiana. KCV Cycling Club has been working hard over the last several months on enhancements throughout the entire trail system and the course is in perfect shape for the event this weekend. KCV thanked the following sponsors for their support: K21 Health Foundation, The Teresa Bakehorn Group, Johnson Chiropractic, The Village at Winona, Trailhouse, Wildman Business Group, Wyndham Garden-Warsaw, RoadID, The SufferFest, Hall & Marose Silveus, Cerulean Restaurant and Applebee’s.
