A second annual motorcycle ride is being planned to raise funds for a permanent homeless shelter in Warsaw.

Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association and New Life Christian Church is hosting the ride June 26.

The ride will kick off at New Life Christian Church, 744 S. CR 325E, Warsaw. The church is behind Tractor Supply Company off U.S. 30.

Registration is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. the day of the ride. The ride begins at 11 a.m. and lunch is at 1 p.m.

The cost is $20 for a single rider, $30 for a double rider, $10 for non-riders, and kids 10 and under ride for free.

Registration for bikers includes a shirt, patch, meal and live entertainment.

Registration for non-riders includes a meal and attending a live country music performance at the church.

Those who pre-register will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a new television.

Joe Walters, ride chairperson, said he hopes the community will attend the ride to raise proceeds for a permanent homeless shelter in Warsaw.

"We want to let the community know a permanent shelter is needed, and what better way to say it than having motorcyclists riding in the county," Walters said.

John Lowe, New Life Christian Church pastor, said a temporary homeless shelter, Project Refuge, began in Warsaw at the New Life Christian Church and World Outreach facility in December 2005 and ran through February 2006.

The shelter also was held December 2008 to March 2009 at the Salvation Army, December 2009 at New Life Christian Church & World Outreach, January and March 2010 at Warsaw Community Church and February 2010 at Christ Covenant Church.

"It is our goal to provide a safe place for the homeless or for someone who may be in a crisis situation," Lowe said. "We want to raise funds to maintain a full-time shelter, and it is always our goal to see an individual have their own place of residence."Lowe said the goal is to provide two warm meals, shower accommodations, a bed with pillows and blankets and a safe zone for the homeless's stay.

Lowe said Project Refuge Homeless shelter received 320 guests and supplied 640 meals from 2008-2009.
