Motorcyclist Injured In Crash On U.S. 30

A motorcycle rider was injured in a three-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Springhill Road, Warsaw.

Robert K. Bryant, 48, of EMS B44 Lane, Leesburg, complained of pain to the face, arms and legs and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for medical treatment.

According to a Warsaw Police Department accident report, Michaela M. Speicher, 44, of North CR 300E, Syracuse, said she was traveling east on U.S. in her white 2006 Honda CRV approaching Springhill Road in the left lane. She said the vehicle in front of her slammed on their brakes so they could make a U-turn to travel west on U.S. 30. Speicher said she slammed on her brakes and came to a stop before impacting the vehicle in front of hers. She said Bryant’s maroon 2007 Yamaha motorcycle impacted the rear of her Honda.

Bradley H. Kinkade, 59, of Dwight, Ill., the driver of the third vehicle, a red 1999 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer, said he was traveling east on U.S. 30 in the right lane. He said the motorcycle hit the rear of the Honda and then traveled into his lane of travel. Kinkade said his tires hit the motorcycle.

Bryant said he believed that the vehicle that hit him left the scene of the accident.

A witness said she was traveling behind Bryant’s motorcycle. She said a vehicle in front of Speicher’s Honda stopped to make a U-turn. She said she saw Bryant attempt to avoid impacting Speicher’s vehicle but hit it in the rear side anyway. The witness said the motorcycle slid into the right lane and the semi ran over it while Bryant was pinned under the motorcycle.

Another witness said he was traveling behind the first witness and that he thought the motorcycle was hit two times. He said the second impact was from the semi.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 to $25,000, according to the accident report.
