ML Motorsports Hosts Fundraiser For Congressional Candidate StutzmanThird District congressional candidate Marlin Stutzman toured and spoke at ML Motorsports in Warsaw Thursday night.

The event was organized by Kent and Nancy Adams; Dr. Steve and Jennifer Hollar; Don and Donna Robinson; Rex and Lorabel Wildman; John and Elaine Elliott; Steve and Lee Miller; Randy and Barb Swanson; and David and Candace Wolkins.

Stutzman's wife, Christy, and their two sons, Peyton and Preston also attended.

Mary Louise Miller founded ML Motorsports in 1998. It is the only NASCAR garage in Indiana.

Stutzman said Warsaw should be proud to have its racing industry.

"Dane and Mary Louise have given so much back to this community, and we should be proud of not only this facility, but the lakes and people in this community that is a wonderful place to raise a family," Stutzman said.

Ed Mullen, ML Motorsports president, said he was honored to have Stutzman visit the facility. Mullen is the Millers' son-in-law.

"We are a race team in Indiana, and Indiana is a racing state, and I think it is wonderful that Marlin took the time to be here because he is the future of this state," Mullen said.

Stutzman spoke about the Nov. 2 election and fielded questions from attendees. He said he has a team that is working so he successfully crosses the finish line.

"We live in concerning times watching what is going on in Washington, D.C., and it has renewed my vision in what we have to do to change Washington," Stutzman said.

He said ML Motorsports is an example of why America is great because the facility creates jobs, and is able to build and produce.

Stutzman was asked if politicians understand there is global competition, and if the government realizes the U.S. needs to compete to keep business locally.

"A lot of folks in Washington don't understand the free market system and how supply and demand works," Stutzman said.

Stutzman said there needs to be transparency of what makes the economy work.

He also was asked if his farm would have made a profit without government subsidy. Stutzman said yes.

"That's one thing my opponent is beating me up on, and I've been the only one to say we can do away with direct payments," Stutzman said.

"We need to protect agriculture when there is a crop failure and have a crop insurance program and put in a safety net system rather than a direct payment."

Stutzman was asked about his thoughts on term limits, and said the problem is that politicians have to vote on it first.

"I think we need a reasonable time for term limits, and if it's too short the staff and lobbyists run the institution," Stutzman said.

He said he doesn't know if there is a magic number for term limits, but said campaign finance reform would make a big difference in how competitive elections are.

Marlin said he supports a balanced budget amendment, and is in favor of a fair tax.

"If a person is in the U.S. illegally they are paying the taxes and credibility is created for our federal government because when our economy goes down so does money that goes to the government," Stutzman said.

Stutzman said he believes government should live within its means.
