Miss Thrifty Lives Up To Her Name

Posted
It’s a dream realized for thrift store enthusiast Missy Ambrose.
One day while at a thrift store with partner Robert Holland, she said that someday she’d like to have a thrift store of her own, run her way.
Cut to Jan. 2 when Ambrose and Holland opened the doors to Miss Thrifty, 955 N. Lake St., adjacent to the Open Air Garden in Warsaw.
“I just said I had always wanted my own thrift store and (Robert) said ‘Well, why don’t we make it happen?’”
Without much fanfare, advertising or even a sign, Ambrose took to social media behemoth Facebook to get the word out about her store.
When she opened her doors Jan. 2 she was delighted to see a steady turnout of customers, all but one, friends with the store on Facebook.
The stores sign finally went up Friday and Ambrose and Holland are gearing up to fill the 2,000-square foot building with even more items.
From furniture, to home decor, to books, tools and everything in between, Ambrose said the goal of Miss Thrifty is to provide a clean, friendly shopping environment that features new and gently used items.
Currently, Miss Thrifty isn’t accepting items for consignment though Ambrose said that may be in the works.
The store is open every day but Thursday.
On Thursday’s, Ambrose and Holland hit up auctions, estate sales, yard sales and have begun going to storage auctions to find items that fit well with Miss Thrifty’s aesthetic.
“They’re not as glamourous as they make them out to be on TV,” joked Ambrose of the storage auctions referring to the show “Storage Wars”.
The store is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
Ambrose said she will continue to use her Facebook page to get out word on events or new products.
She’s currently up to 308 “likes” on the social network.
Ambrose said a lot of the items she has for sale are great for those looking to furnish a first-time apartment or home.

Miss Thifty current accepts cash and check and is in the process of accepting credit and debit cards.
