CLAYPOOL – Miriam E. Bilbee, 85, Elkhart, formerly of Claypool, passed away Jan. 23, 2016, at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born Jan. 12, 1931, in Claypool, to Robert and Margaret Jenkins Herendeen. In 1956 in Elkhart, she married James L. Bilbee, who preceded her in death June 3, 1988, in St. Ignace, Mich. She worked for Miles Laboratories in the 1950s after graduating from high school. She and James owned and operated Gateway Lanes in St. Ignace for 12 years. She then worked for McGregor Oil, St. Ignace, in the accounting department for 30 years. She loved all her family especially her grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ellen (and spouse Steven) Anderson, Elkhart; a son, Mark (and spouse Jody) Bilbee, Vassar, Mich.; five grandchildren: James (and spouse Traci), Derick, Zach, Kate (and spouse Shane) and Megan; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jonathon. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Larry and Donald. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool, with Pastor Mike Settles officiating.
