Minsterial Association Establishes Hunger Awareness Sunday

Minsterial Association Establishes Hunger Awareness SundayThe Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association has established Sunday as Hunger Awareness Sunday, and there are many ways the community can help.

Churches, groups and individuals are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items or money to local pantries.

The Salvation Army "Choice Pantry" has seen a 25 percent increase in requests for food in 2018, according to Major Bill Welch. "We used to see around 200 households, but now we average about 250 per month," he said.

Unemployment rates are at all-time lows, but housing and other costs are high, so area pantries serve the “working poor,” he said. Many single parents and seniors access the services as well.

In addition, the Kosciusko CROP Hunger Walk is planned for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at The Salvation Army, 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw. Registration begins at 1 p.m. for the 5K walk to raise the awareness of hunger around the world.

Money raised at the CROP Walk supports Church World Services and the local Salvation Army.
