Minor Injuries in 'Severe' Tanker Truck Crash by Meijer

Posted
A Hebron man was extricated from the cab of his tanker truck and taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital after his vehicle struck a traffic signal support pole Thursday.
According to information provided by the Warsaw Police Department, officers responded to the collision around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Mark Burgess, 41, Hebron, reportedly rear-ended another semi that was stopped for a red light at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Meijer Drive in Warsaw. Burgess veered off to the side just before impact and struck the right rear corner of the box trailer before continuing forward and striking a traffic signal support pole.
The impact between the tanker and the traffic signal support pole was severe and trapped Burgess inside the cab.
Warsaw/Wayne Fire Territory extricated Burgess and he was transported by Multi-Township EMS to KCH in fair condition.
Burgess was hauling a load of gasoline for R&J Cartage of Porter, Ind., but no gasoline was spilled during the collision. However, fuel from the cab saddle tanks did leak onto the highway. The driver of the stopped semi which was struck, Sandy Brantley, 37, Valdosta, Ga., was not injured.
Eastbound U.S. 30 was restricted to one lane for nearly three hours while the accident scene was cleaned. The collision also caused the overhead traffic signs for the Meijer exit to drop down, blocking the entrance and exit to the Meijer and U.S. 30 intersection.
Indiana Department of Transportation will continue to work at the intersection to repair the traffic signal support pole and sign support wires.
