A 77-year-old minister was arrested early this morning on sex-related charges with a minor following a three-month investigation.

Robert Haywood, 77, of 520 S. Washington St., was arrested at 4:55 a.m. this morning on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony, sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class D felony and sexual battery, a Class D felony, resulting from a July 21 incident.

Haywood is the minister at Harvest Time Ministries Church, at 4934 E. Pierceton Road, Warsaw.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the mother of a 14-year-old mentally and physically handicapped girl contacted the Warsaw Police Department in response to a phone call from the minister’s wife, Christine Haywood.  Christine told the mother that she had received a phone call from her daughter that said, “I love you. I’ll take my clothes off, let’s make sex.”

The probable cause affidavit states that officers learned upon further investigation that  Haywood allegedly touched the girl at the church, in their backyard and in the woods behind Haywoods’ house.

When officers had a chance to speak with the young girl she allegedly said that Haywood “touched her private area,” pointed to her vagina and described the alleged incident.

Additionally Haywood allegedly kissed the girl and touched her vagina with his hand while in the basement of the church. The young girl further said that Haywood took her to the woods behind his house and pulled her pants down, unzipped his own pants and began other sexual activity.

The brother of the young girl said that on June 20 he went groundhog hunting with Haywood and after they were done, Haywood took his sister into the woods.

When law enforcement attempted to speak with Haywood he refused.

Haywood was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on $10,000 bond. Haywood has since bonded out.
