Miller Honored At Annual Phoenix Conference In Vegas Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Dr. Dane Miller, of Winona Lake, won the 2009 Phoenix Lifetime Achievement Award during the 16th Annual Phoenix Conference.

Miller is a co-founder of Warsaw-based Biomet Inc., a leading orthopedic manufacturer.

The Phoenix Hall of Fame for Medical Device & Diagnostic Leadership honored the accomplishments of the Phoenix 2009 Award recipients at a dinner reception Oct. 2.The conference, held Oct. 2-3 in Las Vegas, Nev., is a medical device and diagnostic conference for chief executive officers that explores the key issues facing the industry.

More than 130 medical device CEOs and executives were in attendance. The conference featured a discussion with Dr. Len Nichols, a healthcare economist and director of the Health Policy Program at the New America Foundation, who explored the current crisis in the healthcare system and the differing approaches to coverage currently being debated in Congress.

The conference also included a presentation by Tina Seelig, executive director for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, on the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship and the process of transforming challenges into opportunities.

Other highlights of the two-day conference included a panel addressing the impact of the changing regulatory and healthcare delivery system on the future of medical device innovation; a panel exploring the funding challenges faced by venture-backed medical technology companies; and interactive breakout sessions examining such timely issues as the implications of healthcare payment reform, recent developments at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and strategies for coping with changes in reimbursement policy.
