A Milford teen was injured Monday morning in a shooting accident.
Jayson Howey, 15, was shot once in the right buttock by a 12-gauge shotgun. He was treated at Goshen General Hospital and then airlifted later Monday to Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he is listed in serious condition.
According to police reports, Howey and his brother, Josh, 12, were putting their guns away after hunting on Sunday.
Jayson said he was putting his gun into a gun cabinet with Josh standing behind him. Jayson said he heard a gun go off, and the blast knocked him against the wall and then to the floor.
Josh told police he was standing behind his brother holding his shotgun with the barrel only 4 inches away from Jayson's buttocks. Josh said he thought the gun was empty, and he pulled the trigger.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department ruled the incident an accident.
