MILFORD - The Milford Town Council raised the fees for sewer and water utilities Monday.
The overall water increase was 12.5 percent and the sewer rates took a 34 percent increase.
According to Dallas Winchester, Milford utilities director, the reason for large sewer increase is to help fund the $1 million treatment plant project.
The expansion of the treatment plant is a response to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management's request to have Milford reduce its ammonia nitrates.
Winchester said he was pleased with the figures because he believed the rates would be much higher than they actually are because of the high dollar amounts for the expansion project.
In other business, the utilities department will be flushing the fire hydrants tomorrow. Milford residents should refrain from doing laundry, said Winchester.
Winchester also asked that residents not burn leaves or trash on Thursdays because the utilities department fogs for mosquitoes that day.
Winchester said he has not heard of any instances of fire or explosion involving a fogger but he wanted to take precautions anyway.
