MILFORD - For a maximum of $82,260, the town of Milford will put in a new well.
Utilities superintendent Dallas Winchester presented the project and costs to the town council Monday at its regular meeting. He said he was very happy with the bid from Ortman Drilling. However, he was still awaiting a bid from Peerless Drilling, but was in favor of the Ortman bid if Peerless' bid was higher.
The council approved the project with a maximum cost of $82,260. The bid will be awarded at the next meeting.
Ortman also will provide an engineer for the permitting process to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Winchester said.
The earliest the new well can be put in is spring 2004.
In a somewhat related matter, town attorney Jay Rigdon provided an estimated timeline to the town council for the sewage treatment plant expansion.
By early February, the notice of sewer/wastewater rate increases will be placed in local newspapers. At the Feb. 9 town council meeting, the council will set a special meeting for Feb. 23 to discuss the ordinance and rates. In March, the ordinance could be approved and then the bids for the bonds will be awarded. The bonds to be sold for the project, Rigdon said, will likely be sold relatively quickly. Construction could begin as early as the end of March.
Winchester said the project will cost $1.8 million.
In other business, the town council:
Approved Kiefer Consulting's bid for the town's land application permit from IDEM for $3,000 plus a per analysis cost.
Approved the Milford Police Department to accept a grant of $2,400 from the Kosciusko County Coalition on Drug Education if the county council approves the grants as determined by K-CODE.
Approved the 2004 meetings to be the second Monday of every month in the town hall at 7 p.m.
Approved not to repair Winchester's truck, which has $300 in damages to it. Winchester's daughter backed into the truck, causing approximately $450 in damage to her own vehicle.
Council president John Lehman said he saw no reason to fix the truck with so little damage.
Approved the last town council meeting of the year to be Dec. 29 at 7:30 a.m.
Members of the Milford Town Council are John Lehman, Bob Phillips and Doug Ruch.
