A Milford man is in serious condition after the car he was driving ended up upside down in a ditch off Husky Trail.
Noel M. Sparks, 27, of U.S. 6, Milford, was semi-conscious at the scene of the 12:28 a.m. Saturday accident on Husky Trail, south of Mariner Drive in Warsaw. Sparks suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted from Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, to Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was listed in serious condition late this morning.
According to a Warsaw Police Department report, alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident. Sparks also had a suspended driver's license, police said. Charges are pending against him.
When police arrived at the scene of the accident, the car was found on its top in a ditch, with the roof flattened even with the hood and trunk of the car. Part of Sparks' bloody head and a bloody hand were partway out the driver's window and he was reportedly having trouble breathing.
A Warsaw Fire Department crew used an extrication tool to free Sparks from the wreckage after the car was partially lifted by the tow truck.
Damage to the car, which Sparks reportedly took without permission from a friend's house, is estimated at $2,500 to $5,000. Damage to a city of Warsaw street sign is $50.
