Milford Considers Building Pavilion At Waubee Lake

Posted

MILFORD - The Milford Park Advisory Board wants to put up a new pavilion at Waubee Lake Park.

Monday, clerk-treasurer Charlotte Siegfried told the town council the park advisory board had three quotes for the pavilion and was seeking more. On top of whatever cost there will be for the new pavilion, there would be a cost of $1,300 to tear the old one down.

"They want to start it soon," Siegfried said.

Dallas Winchester, utilities superintendent, said the new pavilion would be to the south of the mobile home and will look like the one the Lion's Club already built at the park.

The park board is leaning toward two local bids for the pavilion, Siegfried said. There is no rush on accepting the bids as long as the project is completed by next summer.

John Lehman, town board president, said it probably will take two to three months to get a permit for the pavilion from the state.

Also, Siegfried said, the park advisory board wants to get rid of the concrete picnic tables at the park.

"No one stole them," said Bob Phillips, town board member, of the concrete picnic tables.

Winchester said half of the tables would be lost when they are moved.

Phillips made a motion to have the old pavilion torn down for $1,300 and to take the bids under advisement. The motion was approved.

In other business, the town council:

• Heard from Winchester that leaf pickup will start Oct. 15. Residents are asked to place their leaves on top of the curbs or on the roadside. No limbs or rocks should be in the leaves. Leaves won't be picked up in alleys. If leaves are placed in the road, they may end up back in a person's yard without getting picked up, Winchester said.

"Please be careful and we will work with you," Winchester said.

He said rounds will be made once a day when possible. There is no need to call the street department about leaves.

The department will continue to pick up leaves until finished or until the truck is needed for snow removal.

• Approved the purchase of a salt applicator for a price not to exceed $2,200.

• Heard the junk car ordinance will be enforced in the next few weeks. Cars to be tagged include any vehicles more than 10 years old that are not running or have not been moved. Anyone with questions should call Milford Town Marshal Dave Hobbs.

• Approved the resubmission of the construction permit for the town's wastewater facilities project.

• Approved a bid of $17,437.92 from Phend & Brown for resurfacing West Street from Syracuse Street to Section Street.

• Approved sending a letter to the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals in favor of Ace Auto's petition for an exception. The business, Ind. 15, Milford, wants to put a gross flow paint booth in the existing building.

• Heard the clerk's office will be closed Wednesday for a half day; Thursday all day; and Oct. 13 and 15. The drop box for utility bills is on the north side of the town hall building.

Members of the Milford Town Council are John Lehman, Bob Phillips and Douglas Ruch. Their next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the town hall.
