WINONA LAKE – Tim Meyer was named Man of the Year and Rita Price-Simpson Woman of the Year during the 103rd Chamber Membership Banquet Wednesday. Meyer, a certified public accountant who moved to Warsaw more than 30 years ago, has been involved in a range of organizations from the Kosciusko County YMCA to United Way. He also helped develop the Ivy Tech Orthopedic Advanced Manufacturing Training Center and cofounded Heartline Crisis Pregnancy Center. “Many can confess to be pro-life, but our Man of the Year put it into action,” said Dennis Hively, award presenter. Meyer said he feels blessed to be part of so many organizations and to develop the friendships and relationships that he has. “I’m really enthused to be recognized with this,” he said, adding that he encouraged everyone in the audience to get involved in nonprofit organizations. Besides running a furniture store and later a coffee shop in Mentone with her husband, Jack, Price-Simpson became the first on-air women’s basketball announcer in Indiana after joining WRSW AM and FM in 1959. One of her daughters, Tracey Simpson Croteau, shared, “I am proud of my mom. She taught us, by example, to be independent, and to have the determination to do what you know you can do, regardless of what anyone says.” Price-Simpson said when receiving her award, “Of all the honors you ever get, the most appreciated are from the ones you love. I’ve had the opportunity to do what I love for 50 years and to get to know so many of you.” Other Kosciusko Chamber awards given Wednesday: • Ambassador – Marcia Erickson • Young Adult Professional – Emerson Poort • Employer – Martin’s Supermarket • Government Excellence – Sue Ann Mitchell, Kosciusko County treasurer • Business – CenturyLink • Service Business – Eagle Outdoor Advertising, owner Dan Wolcott • Entrepreneur – Caleb France, Cerulean • Industry – Louis Dreyfus, Claypool A video of the evening will be on the Oldies 98.3FM website for one week.
