Mentone Resident Airs Concerns About Neighbor's Dog Waste

Posted
MENTONE – Mentone resident and artist Robert Hudson expressed concern Monday with dog waste on his neighbor’s properties.
Hudson, 306 N. Broadway St., said there are 19 dogs owned by his neighbors that surround his home.
“I cannot open my windows. It stinks really bad and will stink until the hottest days of summer until it’s all dried up,” Hudson said.
He asked if there is a town ordinance on the number of dogs that are allowed on properties.
Jim Eads, town marshal, said three dogs are allowed per property.
Hudson said he asked his neighbors to pick up the waste, but nothing has been done.
Hudson said there are seven dogs at one of his neighbor’s home.
“That is more than what is allowed,” said Shelly Krueger, councilwoman.
Jill Gross, council president, said the town will look into the matter.
In other business, Eads said deputy candidates who are seeking the position vacated by Terry Engstrand have completed the physical aptitude test.
The council and Eads will meet March 15 at 6 p.m. at town hall in executive session to interview the remaining three candidates for the job.
Engstrand resigned from his position Oct. 5.
In other business, the council approved:
• Renewing a Sam’s Club membership for town employees.
• An $8,600 contract with D&D Electric, Warsaw, for electric services for the building that stores town equipment. Josh Shepherd, utilities superintendent, thanked McClure Electric, Pierceton, for their bid as well.
Shepherd also thanked the anonymous person who picked up sticks in the town park.
• A three-year contract with WACD LLC, Winona Lake, for firewall services for the town hall’s Internet.
Tim Croy, councilman, informed the council that the Mentone Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Easter egg hunt is March 26 at 10 a.m. at Mentzer Park.
The council set May 18 as the day when large trash items will be picked up by town employees.
Gross informed the council a meeting will be March 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Warsaw City Hall for volunteers to help with Bicentennial planning.
