Mentone Man Accused Of Choking GirlfriendA Mentone man is facing battery and criminal mischief charges after allegedly choking his girlfriend and damaging property at her house after she didn’t answer his phone call.
Killian Chase Hilliard, 22, of 506 W. Main St., Mentone, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:42 p.m. Monday for domestic battery.
According to court documents filed Oct. 26, he faces charges of domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor; and two counts of criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.
His bond was set at $5,000 surety and $1,000 cash.
On Oct. 18, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Rick Oliver responded to a domestic abuse complaint. The victim told him her boyfriend, Hilliard, came to her house upset because she wouldn’t answer her phone. She explained she didn’t answer the phone because her phone was downstairs and she was upstairs.
When Hilliard entered the victim’s home, he went upstairs and grabbed the victim by the neck and choked her, according to the court documents. He also picked up a television and threw it on the floor, close to where a child was laying.
As Hilliard was going down the stairs, he ripped out all the wooden handrailing. Hilliard also threw a bottle, putting a hole in the wall and breaking the windshield out of a vehicle.
Damage to the windshield was less than $750, and damage to the victim’s home also was less than $750.
Two other children were present in the home when Hilliard allegedly choked the victim.
