WINONA LAKE - A Mentone girl was released from Kosciusko Community Hospital Wednesday after being struck by a car in Winona Lake.
Jamie V. Fivecoate, 17, was crossing the intersection of Ninth Street and Park Avenue in Winona Lake. According to witnesses, Fivecoate was crossing the street to get to a vehicle that was waiting for her, and apparently failed to look for oncoming traffic.
As Fivecoate crossed the street, Jason Meck, 33, Pierceton, was driving down the street, veered to avoid Fivecoate, but the rearview mirror of his car struck Fivecoate. Winona Lake Town Marshall Paul Schmitt said he believed a tire also may have ran over Fivecoate's foot.
Fivecoate was unconscious when authorities arrived, and was taken to KCH. She was held overnight for observations, treated and released from KCH Wednesday.
No charges in the case are pending, according to Schmitt.
