Mentone EMT Carl Saint to Run for County Coroner

Posted
SILVER LAKE – After working as an EMT in Mentone for six years, Carl D. Saint, Silver Lake, decided it’s time to run for county coroner.

As a first responder, Saint has seen a lot of situations and worked closely with the coroner’s office. Saint would like to improve communication between the coroner’s office and the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

“I would also like to educate the EMTs and first responders on what to look for when they arrive on scene,” Saint said. “Look into a once-per-year training session for first responders.”

He also would like to look into better technology that could help the coroner and his deputies do their jobs better.

As an EMT, Saint feels that if he is elected he could provide a stronger connection between EMTs and the coroner’s office, due to his experiences in the field.

Saint believes the coroner’s office needs to do a better job at communicating and being there for families in their time of need.

“The coroner’s office works with the dead,” Saint said. “If I am elected I want to do a better job at communicating with families. You see how families react as an EMT and I would treat them with courteousness and treat them as a family member, not another person or body.”

He is a lifelong resident of Kosciusko County and 1997 graduate of Warsaw Community High School. He has been married to Trista for two years, and they have three sons, Marcus, 15, Shane, 14, and Zachary, 12.

He views the position of coroner as a full-time position and would not continue to work as an EMT.

When it comes to why he decided to run for coroner, he said, “I think the coroner’s office needs a new perspective.”
