MENTONE – Mentone Town Council elected Jill Gross to serve as president during Monday night’s meeting.
Gross has served on the council for the past six years. She will fill the seat vacated by Tim Croy, who has served on the council for nine years.
Croy said he is getting busy with his business and does not have the amount of time he would like to have to serve as council president.
He nominated Gross to serve as president, seconded by Shelly Krueger.
Randy Bays, Mentone police department reserve officer, requested his name be submitted for the deputy position left vacant by Terry Engstrand, who resigned.
The council approved holding an executive session Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. to discuss implementing a new police policy.
The town does not currently have a police policy.
Krueger submitted a policy to Charles Braun, attorney for Indiana who writes police policies.
The agreement submitted by the town says Braun will review the town’s current policy policies.
Jim Eads, town marshal, said there are no police policies to review because they have not been enacted by the council.
Also during the meeting the council approved seeking quotes to purchase a recording machine for meetings.
