Mentone Council Hears Update On Grants For Mentzer Park Upgrade Phase II

Posted

MENTONE – Amy Roe, Kosciusko County community coordinator, told the Mentone Town Council Wednesday the town has been approved for the Community Amenities Program (CAP) grant for the Mentzer Park upgrade phase two project.
However, the grant is contingent on the town getting the matching funds through the CreatINg Places crowdfunding campaign it is conducting through May 30. The town has a goal of $50,000. If the town reaches the $50,000, the town will receive $50,000 in matching grant money from the campaign.
Roe said receiving the matching grant money from the CreatINg Places campaign would be the lynch pin in releasing the grant money from the K21 Health Foundation for the CAP grant.
Earlier in the meeting, Clerk-Treasurer Amanda Yaprak said $12,660 has been raised through its CreatINg Places crowdfunding campaign.
She also thanked the Mentone Chamber of Commerce for mailing flyers to area businesses about the crowdfunding campaign, as well as other people and businesses helping with the campaign.
She said a portion of sales on April 30 from BBQ on Broadway were donated to the crowdfunding campaign.
Hoosier Vintage has allowed the town to do a preorder of 16-ounce candles and about 40% of the proceeds will towards the Patronicity campaign. The candles will be delivered during the Egg Festival.

The Bulldog Saloon also had a 20th anniversary celebration and $1,200 was  raised  for the Mentzer Park project.

The council also approved a resolution allowing for any payments made in May for pavilion rentals will be donated to the crowdfunding campaign instead of to the town.
Roe also asked if the Chamber was following up with businesses about contributing to the crowdfunding campaign. Councilman Tim Croy said yes.
Roe said she meets with the OrthoWorx CAP subcommittee and the subcommittee has offered an opportunity for a ribbon-cutting or groundbreaking to get the word out in a larger capacity.
She said she just wanted to make sure that the community knew that if the $50,000 goal for the CreatINg Places grant wasn’t met, there was other money the town would miss out on for the park upgrade.
