MENTONE - The Mentone Town Council approved a sprinkler credit at its monthly meeting Monday night.

The credit is good in June, July and August.

It credits those who water their yard in the summer months.

If a customer typically uses 4,000 gallons a month but uses 6,000 in August, it can be adjusted back to 4,000.

Mentone Clerk-Treasurer Barb Ross needs to be informed if a resident would like the credit by the 20th of each month it's available.

Meters are typically read in Mentone around the 25th of each month.

Shelly Krueger appeared before the council with an idea for Mentone to have a Farmer's Market.

Krueger said she would seek vendors for it.

The location would be in the parking lot on the northeast corner of Main and Tucker streets.

Days and hours are yet to be determined.

Krueger said they would charge each vendor between $2 and $3 to participate.

The town would have no involvement in the market with the exception of allowing the parking lot to be used.

The council did encourage Krueger to move forward with the idea.

For more information call Krueger at 574-353-8105 or 574-606-7549.

Mike Stang, G.A.I., said the town's wastewater treatment plant project is moving closer to completion.

The council approved $13,899 in change orders for the project.

Stang said he believed the final project will come in $100,000 under budget.

Beer and Slabaugh, Nappanee, were awarded a $775,702.35 project to improve storm sewers in town.

That project is scheduled to being in late April, early May.

Ross informed the council that the town is expected to receive $9,938.97 less in property taxes than expected.

Cemetery cleanup in Mentone will take palce April 4 through 8.

The council will hold an executive session for employees March 21.
