Three Warsaw Police Department patrol officers took oaths of office during Friday’s Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer gave oaths of office to patrolmen Justin Curtis, Jason Dobbins and Jordan Roberts. Dobbins’ father, Ted, and Curtis’s father, David, are both former WPD officers. Ted gave his son a gift to open during the ceremony – his old belt he wore when he was a police officer. Salaries also were approved for the officers. Curtis and Dobbins both were approved to receive $1,727.36 bi-weekly salaries, and Roberts will receive a $1,710.59 bi-weekly salary. The board also approved WPD accepting a $35,804 grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute to be used for the department’s Victim Services Division. Also during the meeting, the board reviewed bids for 2014 supplies for the city for limestone, cement, flowable fill, asphalt and concrete curbing. The bids will be taken under advisement and voted on at the Nov. 15 meeting. In other business, the board: • approved a $20,500 contract with Avantti Environmental Group to look at Walnut Creek and adjacent wetlands; • approved a $29,920 proposal with Spectra Tech to put 136 feet of vertical lining in sanitary manholes; • approved a $12,600 contract with Everest Excavating LLC for a revision of the asphalt on the High Street sewer replacement project; • approved a $10,988 contract with ConCo Spray Solutions to install lining for the Warsaw Lift Station.
