Martin's Super Markets, 1150 Husky Trail, Warsaw, will hold a one-day produce sales event Jan 14.
The one-day truckload produce sale is targeted to both encourage and assist Kosciusko County residents seeking to maintain nutritious eating habits on what might be increasingly limited budgets.
Ten of the most popular types of fruits and vegetables will be featured at extreme values at this first-ever sale at Martin's newest location.
Martin's inaugural 1-Day Truckload Produce Sale was held May 7, 2009, at all seven of the company's Elkhart County stores.
"The response from shoppers during that sale was even greater than we anticipated," according to Ed Osowski, Martin's director of produce and floral. "As fast as we could get the produce into the departments, shoppers were loading up their carts to check out! We're expecting the same kind of response to this sale, and we've got the trucks and the people lined up to handle a repeat."
Although some economic indicators are pointing to a slow recovery, the stresses consumers continue to experience are still challenging shoppers to make the most of every food dollar they spend.
Osowski said, "Unfortunately, one of the sacrifices many might choose to make is to eliminate fresh fruits and vegetables from their diets. But studies show that making fresh produce an appropriate part of the diet not only helps main physical health, but can also contribute to more positive mental health as well."
As in the previous sale, Martin's contacted some of their largest produce partners and asked if they could supply truckloads of first-quality fruits and vegetables in huge quantities and at big discounts. By doing so, the company is able to pass those savings directly to shoppers in a big, one-day event as a way to remind people that eating right can, and should, continue to be a part of their everyday lives.
Martin's Super Markets was founded in 1947 and currently has 21 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee, Logansport and Warsaw, Ind., and Niles, Stevensville and St. Joseph, Mich.
