Marino Wins Democrat Nomination for Claypool Clerk

CLAYPOOL - Former Claypool interim clerk-treasurer Tricia Marino will be trying for that position again following the results of a town Democrat vote Thursday.

Marino was selected as the Democrat candidate by a 10-3 decision by registered party voters, defeating other Democrat hopeful Charlotte Allen. Marino will face Miccah Shepherd, the Libertarian candidate for clerk-treasurer, and Paul Burkey, the Republican candidate, in November.

Marino, who works for Cardinal Services, was appointed by the Claypool council in June 2007 to finish the last six months of departing Clerk-Treasurer Niki Miller’s term. Current Clerk-Treasurer Arlene Leiter was then chosen for the 2008-2012 term.

In brief comments before the vote, Marino told voters she hopes to be able to serve Claypool again. She added she has some training from her brief time in the position, and acknowledged she will need to receive more.

“I felt I was doing a good job and learning to do a better job,” she said after the vote. “I hope to be in the office and serve Claypool the best I can, and help the town run smoothly.”

Allen chose not to speak.
