Staff Report-
When a Marine sets his or her mind to do something momentous, they do it very well, according to a press release from the Air Force Association #411, Mentone. John Peyton, retired Marine master sergeant, did exactly that while serving as vice president of aerospace education for Chapter 411. The Air Force Association’s mission is to educate the public about the critical role of aerospace power in the defense of the nation. All American citizens are welcomed to join the AFA as prior military service is not a requisite. Peyton did the research and successful deliberation for the nomination of five Chapter 411 Teachers of the Year. Two went on to be named AFA Indiana State Teachers of the year and one is now being designated for National Teacher of the Year. On July 23, 2013, U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Walorski and State Rep. Rebecca Kubacki held a meeting for veterans at American Legion Post 253, North Webster. The meeting was held to hear the complaints of the U.S. Veterans Administration. Peyton entered the conversation and compared his five years working for the Social Security Administration and his experience with the Veterans Administration. The Air Force Association’s Medal of Merit is a very high honor and Peyton is very deserving of receiving one of only three given in Indiana, the release states.
