WINONA LAKE - The Montana Mandolin Society appears at Rodeheaver Auditorium Saturday.
The Lakeland Community Concert Association concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Montana Mandolin Society was organized in 1999, resurrecting the 1902-era Bozeman Mandolin and Guitar Club.
The goal of the Montana Mandolin Society is one of education, preservation and community service.
The ensemble is known for its particular sound and style - "The Montana Sound."
The program includes a variety of music providing a historical perspective of mandolin music in America.
LCCA concert-goers can look forward to a combination of musical styles, including temporary, classical international and original compositions on mandolin, mandola, mandocello, octave mandolin, guitar, violin and other instruments.
The group promotes the enjoyment of acoustic instruments by working with communities and schools as part of their community service.
Individual concert tickets are $15 each.
New subscribers may attend the Montana Mandolin Society concert free when a 2006-2007 season ticket is purchased Saturday. Costs are $35 each.
Concerts include an appearance by the Purdue University Glee Club, Sept. 30; a Christmas Pops Concert from the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Dec.17; the New Trombone Collective, Feb. 22; the Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band, March 24; and April 27, 2007, the gold medalist of the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, and Yingdi Sun, gold medalist of the 2005 Liszt Competition.
