Manchester Sweeps TRC Track Meets With Tippecanoe ValleyAKRON – Jaelyn Webb was a double winner for the Lady Squires in Manchester’s 76-46 win over host Tippecanoe Valley in a Three Rivers Conference track meet Thursday. In the boys meet, Jared Mikel won the 110 and 300 hurdles for Valley, but Manchester won eight events to take a 74.5-48.5 win. Webb won the 800 and 1,600 for Manchester. Other Lady Squire winners were Alexis Wagoner in the high jump, Carsyn Howard in the 400, Bailey Sewell in discus, Katie Barker in the 300 hurdles, and Sara Rohr in the 3,200. The Lady Squires won two of three relays as well. Senior standout Rae Bedke anchored the winning 4x800 relay. Winning for the Squires were Will Hassenplug in the discus, Jameson Baker in the shot put, Isaiah Davis in the high jump, Jacob Burton in the 200, Drew Jones in the 1,600, Lance Bennett in the 800, Remington Trick in the long jump and Montgomery Pattison in the 3,200. In spite of the score, Manchester head coach Julie Cassel said “we looked flat,” against Valley compared with the results from Tuesday’s TRC wins over Wabash and Rochester. “Coming out of spring break, we looked sharp. But then tonight I don’t know if the fatigue just hit us, but everybody was off their game,” she said. “I don’t know if, after Tuesday, they thought it would be easy, but I tried to tell them Valley’s always got speed, and they always have throwers. “We didn’t do a bad job, but we need to be on our toes. The boys have four meets in seven days, so we’re going to be a little fatigued.” Manchester’s teams are well-balanced, in spite of their relative youth. “Other than Rae, we don’t have any absolute superstars, but we have some mighty fine kids that compete really well, and they are superstars in the making,” Cassel said. Lexi O’Connell won twice for the Lady Vikings, taking the 100 hurdles and the 200. Sarah Tucker won the 100, Jalyssa House the long jump and Mikayla Ruiz the shot put. The Lady Vikings also won the 4x100 relay. Dakota Parker was also a double winner for the Vikings, taking the 100 and 400. Will Hassenplug won the discus for the Vikings, and Jameson Baker won the shot put. The Valley 4x100 relay squad also won. Valley coach Jenny Moriarty said it was Parker’s first time running the 400, and the coaching staff is still mixing and matching to help the athletes find their best events. She said she’s pleased with the progress of the team so far this season. “Overall, I was proud of the team because they keep improving. Obviously that wasn’t the result we wanted, but they have improved so much from our first meet,” she said. “We did well in the 100 and the 200. Sarah Tucker did well, and Alyssa Brito has impressed us quite a bit, even running with some pain and fighting through it. Valeria Jimenez did very well in the 400. We have a lot of good individuals, and we’re trying to find the right fit for everybody, which is exactly what these meets are for. “Dakota Parker did well in the 100, and we put him in the 400 today and he completely excelled at that. Keith Wright is amazing at the high jump (finishing second), considering this is his first year, even though he’s a senior. He’s cleared 5-10 before, and for a first year, we’re completely ecstatic with that. ”We have different parts woking together. we have the pieces, we just have to find the right fit.” Manchester’s boys team will compete in the Churubusco Relays on Saturday, and both teams will go to North Miami for a meet with Lakeland Christian and Caston on Monday. Valley has a three-way TRC meet with Northfield at Wabash on Tuesday.
