Manchester Schools Seeking Roof Bids For Junior High

Posted

NORTH MANCHESTER - Manchester Community Schools Corp. will soon begin advertising for contractor roof bids for the Manchester Junior High School roofing project, to begin this summer.

For several years the school has had problems with the roof leaking. Work to resolve the leaking problem is slated to begin this summer.

Martin Riley Mock Architects/Consultants, Fort Wayne, was hired last month to oversee the roofing project. The contract was for $15,800 (all-inclusive), which includes a $1,500 fee for an infrared scan the firm did in the fall.

"We've been following this project along now for a couple of years," Luther Mock, of Martin Riley Mock, said at a school board meeting in January. Only 2.6 percent of MJHS's roof is wet, "so this is a prime candidate for re-roofing."

The roofing project will be completed in phases, beginning with the worst areas this summer. The work will take place over two or three years, being completed no later than 2003, assistant superintendent Kim Thurston said last month.

Advertising for contractor roof bids is scheduled for Feb. 20 and 27. A pre-bid construction meeting is slated for Feb. 28 and bids will be opened March 12, Thurston said Tuesday. Mock will present a recommendation to board members March 20 on the successful bidder and on whom to award the contract.

The roofing project will begin this summer.

In other business, board members approved the following: Manchester High School teacher Keith Metzger to take Future Business Leaders of America members to a Komets hockey game in Fort Wayne on Feb. 18; Metzger as a volunteer assistant track coach at MHS; assistant superintendent Kim Thurston to attend the annual alternative education conference in Columbus March 6 through 8; and the 2001 - 2002 school calendar.

Manchester Community Schools Board of Trustees members are: president Kent Trickle, vice president Virginia Gunter, secretary Larry Miller, Todd Speicher, Sally Krouse, Brad Perrott and Thom Frantz. Superintendent is Connie Curry. Assistant superintendent is Kim Thurston.
