NORTH MANCHESTER - Manchester High School seniors may wish they could take back the six snow days they enjoyed so far this season.
At last night's school board meeting, the board voted to change the graduation date from May 28 to June 4. Baccalaureate was changed from May 26 to June 2.
The reason for the change? Superintendent Diana Showalter said the graduating seniors must complete 180 days of class, just like everyone else.
"We need to be honest and expect those students to come in and make up the days. ... They're expected to attend 180 days just like everyone else," Showalter said.
The board also voted to change the date for the end of trimester two. That date was moved from Feb. 27 to March 5. The end of trimester half-day of school will now fall on March 5.
If the school has to close for any more snow days, they hope they will be able to acquire a waiver for seniors. Changing the graduation date again is not feasible, high school principal Nancy Alspaugh said, because diplomas and announcements must be ordered this week.
In other business, the board:
Re-elected Sally Krouse as president of the board of finance and Brad Perrot as the secretary.
Approved Nicolette Gasior, Tracie Hart and Theresa Smith as volunteer assistant softball coaches, and approved a leave of absence for Maple Park secretary Mary Jo Weimann.
Manchester school board members are Sally Krouse, president, Todd Speicher, Thom Frantz, Kent Terrill, Larry Miller, Carlye McLaughlin and Brad Perrot. Superintendent is Diane Showalter.
