Man Who Walked Into Stranger’s Home To Do Meth Gets Probation

Posted
A man who walked into a woman’s home while she was in the shower and started smoking meth on her couch was sentenced Monday.

Jonathan Carlie Shepherd, 30, of 3451 E. Pleasant Grove Drive, Warsaw, appeared in front of Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Michael Reed and was handed two years and 60 days in jail, all suspended to formal probation, as part of a plea agreement.

Shepherd was convicted of possession of methamphetamine and residential entry, Level 6 felonies; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. A Level 5 felony charge of dealing in methamphetamine was dismissed.

Reed sentenced Shepherd to one year each for the Level 6 felonies, and 60 days for the misdemeanor.

Shepherd appeared in a wheelchair in court and did not say anything. Reed accepted to suspend his jail time to formal probation and required him to wear an ankle monitoring bracelet and seek treatment from the Bowen Center.

“You’re in somebody else’s home,” Reed said. “If you go into the wrong home, you get shot. Plus, you scare the heck out of people. This lady was in the shower.”

According to the probable cause affidavit, on March 5 Warsaw police responded to an unwanted subject at a residence. Upon arrival, officers found Shepherd sitting on a couch with a plate on his lap and a piece of foil on the plate and a short straw in his hand. Shepherd told police “it’s just sugar,” court papers state. Police also located a bag that tested positive for methamphetamine next to Shepherd. Shepherd told police it was “ice” and that he was at the residence because he had heard it was a good place to sell narcotics.

When police spoke with the female homeowner, she told police she was in the shower and heard her entry door being opened. She told police she got dressed and walked out into the living room as a male subject she did not know was coming into the residence and he told her he was there to sell methamphetamine.

Shepherd was given 232 days jail time credit.
