Man Sought In Warsaw Hit-And-Run Turns Self InThe man wanted by Warsaw Police for questioning in regard to a hit-and-run accident with serious injury Monday turned himself in Wednesday after he and his family saw a WPD Facebook post.
Luis Fernando Rivera, 27, of 701 S. Union St., Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:28 p.m. Wednesday for failure to stop after an accident with serious bodily injury. His preliminary bond was set at $5,250.
Ryan Coble, WPD public information officer, said Rivera’s family drove him to the sheriff’s department as soon as they saw the Facebook post. The police received multiple tips from the public on the suspect’s name and information about 30 minutes before Rivera turned himself in. Police were ready to apprehend Rivera when Central Dispatch informed them that Rivera was at KCSD.
The car-pedestrian accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Monday on U.S. 30 near the intersection with CR 250E.
Coble said David Goad, 30, Winona Lake, was walking east on U.S. 30. He was in the right-hand turn lane near CR 250E when Rivera’s car allegedly hit him and didn’t stop.
A passerby stopped and contacted police. Coble said Goad was alert and conscious. Injuries to Goad included a compound fracture of the lower left leg. He was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
