Man Questioned for Attempting to Buy Panties from Young Girl

SYRACUSE – A reported case of child solicitation involving a man allegedly offering a young girl cash for her underwear has been forwarded to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies were called to a home along EMS D9 Lane, Syracuse, where a mother told investigators her two young daughters had been approached by a man in their yard, according to a police incident report.

The girls said that as they were in the yard, an older man with a beard, wearing a grey shirt and a grey hat, began talking to them. The girls said the man told them they were “pretty and had soft hair,” and complimented one of the girls on her shirt, the report said.

The man then offered the 10-year-old girl $10 for her underwear, and asked them to bring the garments to him, the girls reported, according to the report.

The girls said the man then patted them on the head, the report said.

A sheriff’s deputy went to the man’s home, and noted in the incident report that a man admitted to speaking with the girls, but denied saying anything inappropriate to them. The man admitted to saying the girls were “kind of pretty, especially the blonde,” the officer noted in the report.

The deputy noted the man was “nervous and was shaking,” the report said.

The Times-Union is not naming the man because he has not been charged.
