SYRACUSE – A Syracuse man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he allegedly kicked his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach during an October argument.
According to an affidavit filed by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Syracuse Police Department officers responded to a report of domestic battery on East Haiden Drive Oct. 1. Officers arrived and spoke with a female that was standing outside the residence. She advised she had been living with her boyfriend – Demiris J. Williams, 30 – for approximately three weeks but had been dating him for more than a year. She further advised she and Williams had been arguing when he took her cell phone and while she was attempting to get it back, Williams grabbed her and dragged her to the ground. The woman advised she was unable to get up and Williams then kicked her in the stomach.
She told officers she was four months pregnant with Williams’ child.
Police observed the victim had scratches, abrasions and swelling on her left arm, an abrasion on her right arm and a red mark on her chest.
Police then spoke with Williams who advised that he and his girlfriend had been living together for one month but had been dating for about two years. He said they had been arguing but there had been no physical contact.
Williams was arrested on charges of battery – causing bodily injury to a pregnant woman, Class C felony, and domestic battery and held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $5,000. He is set to appear in court Nov. 21.
