PIERCETON – A Pierceton man has been arrested and charged with crossing the center line and colliding with an oncoming Jeep – seriously injuring himself and slightly hurting a mother – in an August crash.
Andrew G. Peters, 28, of 6075 E. CR 150N, Pierceton, was booked Monday into Kosciusko County Jail on a single charge of felony operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, nearly two months after the Aug. 22 crash that left him badly hurt.
It was then when, just after 1:30 p.m., Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies were called to CR 100N, west of CR 400E, where a Mazda had crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Jeep. The eastbound 1990 Mazda’s driver – Peters – had to be pulled from the vehicle, and was air lifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, suffering from broken ribs and a severe injury to his lower leg, according to the sheriff’s department.
Peters was listed in serious but stable condition.
The Jeep’s driver – Melissa S. Fitzsimmons, 30, of 6287 E. CR 100N, Pierceton – was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital with an ankle injury. An infant in the SUV, who was buckled in a car seat, was unhurt, the department said.
Days after the crash, charges were forwarded to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office against Peters after a blood sample was returned that showed he had a blood alcohol content of .155, nearly two times the legal limit, according to a sheriff’s department report.
During an investigation, it also was discovered Peters had a suspended license from a prior conviction of driving while intoxicated. That charge came within the last five years.
Sheriff’s department officials said Peters was arrested after his release from the hospital.
