A Warsaw man allegedly crashed through a gate at Warsaw Municipal Airport with his motorcycle then broke into a motor home on airport property early Sunday morning.

According to reports from the Warsaw Police Department, Mitchell Allen Dawson, 23, of 5828 W. CR 100N, Warsaw, was riding a motorcycle on CR 300N around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when he locked his brakes and skidded into a gate at the airport.

Dawson told officers he did not realize the area was not a through road. When he saw the gate, he tried to stop, locking his brakes and sliding inside the fence.

When police arrived, Dawson was not at the scene. Officers discovered the gate damaged and found blood and hair along tiremarks on the road and scrapes on the motorcycle. The gas tank of the motorcycle was torn off.

After the accident, Dawson allegedly went to a 1976 GMC motor home on the airport property, broke out a window and went to sleep in a bed.

When officers went in the motor home, they found blood spattered on the interior and the bed linens.

Dawson was found with several abrasions and bruises on his arms and back. There was also an area behind his right ear that was scraped and hair was missing.

Dawson was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:15 a.m. Sunday on a criminal mischief charge. His bond was set at $500.

The incident remains under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
