Man Airlifted after Mo-ped Crash Saturday

ETNA GREEN -- A Nappanee man was airlifted from a mo-ped crash in Kosciusko County Saturday night in very critical condition.

Officers and rescue units located a single mo-ped lying in the northbound portion of CR 800 West just north of CR 300   along with the driver, Jimmy W. Coates, 47, of 406 E. Market Street, Nappanee. 

Coates was airlifted from the scene by the Parkview Samaritan helicopter and taken to Fort Wayne Parkview Regional Medical Center where he is listed in very critical condition as of this morning.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies and emergency personnel responded to a report of a mo-ped crash on CR 800 West just north of CR 300 North near Etna Green Saturday night at approximately 8:46 p.m.

Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team crash investigators stated that Coates appeared to have been northbound on CR 800 West approximately 1000 feet north of CR 300 North when he lost control of the mo-ped for an unknown reason and crashed in the roadway.  Coates was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. 

FACT team members stated that the crash is still under investigation pending blood draw results as required by state law.
