NORTH WEBSTER – The Lakeland Regional Sewer District renewed its bond anticipation note and expects contractors to keep their bids fresh another month, the board heard Thursday. It also expects to hear about extra funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the next day or two, board President Jim Haney said. The anticipation note, a short-term bond to fund initial work on the project over the past several years, was set to expire in the spring but has been renewed till the end of July. The note of over $2 million has garnered $248,000 in interest in that time, the board heard. And the board heard that contractors who bid on four phases of the project last year have indicated they will honor their bids another 30 days as the district waits to see if it can secure an additional $5 million in funding, but haven’t all sent written agreements to that effect. Also Thursday, Casey Erwin with engineering firm DLZ Corp. recommended the board contract out inspections of sewer system hookups rather than use a district employee. Board member Bob Marcuccilli agreed, saying that with about 1,700 hookups to do, there’s going to be a lot happening at once and they need someone who can devote enough attention to them.
