Local Theater Sells Tickets For 'The Dark Knight' Premiere

People around the world already are purchasing their tickets for "The Dark Knight," the latest Batman film from Warner Brothers.

That includes Kosciusko County residents, who have been buying their tickets at North Pointe Cinemas in Warsaw.

Yvonne Keirn, general manager, said tickets are available now for any show from Thursday night's midnight showing through the weekend and next week.

"We've been selling lots of tickets," said Keirn.

For the midnight showing Thursday night, Keirn said doors will open at 2 p.m. The doors will not be locked down, and they will remain unlocked through the midnight showing.

The movie will be shown on two screens for at least two weeks, Keirn said. The movie is about 150 minutes long.

"I look for them to start lining up at 10 p.m.," said Keirn of Thursday night's midnight showing.

In the past, when North Pointe Cinemas had a midnight showing, Keirn said everyone had so much fun. Some would come in and sit on the floor, chat or play cards while waiting for the film's premiere.

"It's a fun night," she said. "It's supposed to be a fun night."

"I would not be surprised if people dress up" for the movie, Keirn said. North Pointe Cinemas employees will be dressed for the movie.

And the movie, she said, is phenomenal.

"The Dark Knight" stars Christopher Bale, returning as Batman/Bruce Wayne. He is joined by Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger as The Joker. After finishing the filming of the movie, Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose.

Despite his unfortunate death, Keirn said the movie is very good. There's already talk about Ledger getting a second Oscar nomination. His first Oscar nomination was for leading actor in Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain." After seeing "The Dark Knight," Keirn said it is understandable why Ledger has the Oscar buzz going for him. His performance is unreal, uncanny, she said.

To portray a character, an actor has to really get into it, Keirn said. Audiences sometimes forget that.

"After I saw the movie, I was in tears," said Keirn.

She said the movie will probably take in more money at the box office than any other film this year. "I have no doubt it will exceed what they're saying," Keirn said.

Pre-sale tickets for "The Dark Knight" have already exceeded pre-sale tickets for "Spider-Man," which held the record.
